It’s not broken!!!!

I can be a compassionate mom.  Very much so.  When my kids are sick or in pain I can be the best, caring Florence Nightingale they can ever ask for.

However.  Do not exaggerate.  It drives me near insanity if a little bump, scratch or pain causes a reaction that would bring shame to a soccer player.

Quintus hurt his wrist in rugby practise yesterday.  It really is sore.  I can see that it is bruised and swollen but he does use it normally.  However whenever he remembers about it he holds it as though it is broken.  Drives me insane.

Thankfully he has seen that he has reached the end of my sympathy.

I wonder if I would have had the same outlook if I had daughters.  Am I tough on my boys because they are boys?  I don’t know really.  I don’t think so.

  1. OK, my husband does the same type of thing, and he’s almost 37 years old! His cough or soar throat is fine until I ask how it is… then it’s the only thing he can think about.

Still the same treatment. I am that way with my 8 year old. Doesn’t change because of gender in fact, I think you are even harder on the girls because you don’t want the stigma of them being wimps because they are not boys you know.

Shame, poor boy to have such a cruel mother terrible injury!!! Let’s hope it gets all better before the next game ;-)

Boys become men and even then pain is a pain for them!

Hmmm…that is interesting. I don’t think I treated my kids differently as far as girls versus boys, but certain of them made a big deal out of little things, while others usually toughed it out. They do seem to have different pain tolerance levels.
