Roadhouses

Do you remember the good old roadhouses?  Windows rolled down (yes – roll down windows!) even in the winter…when you try to wind that window up as high as possible to keep the cold out.  Toasted sandwiches or nice big hamburgers.  Chips soaked in vinegar.  Big milkshakes.   All the kids piled into the back seat.  All of us.  Friends too.  Those were the days.

This weekend I hope to do stuff that will create memories with the boys.  Fun things.  Everyday fun things.

  1. YES! I remember the ‘road-house’ we had one near us, called “The Burger Fair” – and when we first started going their they even had the girls on rollerskates thing happening. Then eventually it just became people coming to the window on ‘foot’, but man those toasted cheese and tomato sarmies where legendary. Huge slices of bread, and really gooey cheese. Great memories!

  3. Oh LOL! I was about to say, remember the drive-in’s too, and then I notices Cheryl’s comment.
I have still got to take Bradley to the drive-in, he’d love it!

  4. I wanted to take my kids to the drive-in last year, but Cape Town doesn’t have one any more. The last one closed a year or 2 ago 😦

  5. We had one of these still around while I was pregnant with kid #2. Oh my goodness. Onion rings and milkshakes that beat all! Can’t wait to hear about the memories! Have a great weekend. ~K
