Super Mom

She must have taken him with her

That would be my son the scholar.  Ever since Quintus’ teacher went in for an operation and he had to go into a bigger class he has given me headaches.  Or like I mentioned in this entry, maybe the teacher just decided she didn’t like him the minute he walked into her class.

He has stayed in during break twice because he was talking and then today because he was swapping stickers instead of doing some or other work.  Okay.  He is good enough about it to tell me this himself.  I appreciate the honesty.

He has also been forgetting his homework files at school.  Just generally doing things that is not like him.

Most of the time when he has done something he shouldn’t have, it included a specific boy who sits next to him.  Now I’m not a teacher but shouldn’t she just move them?

Tomorrow she is getting a letter from me requesting her to move Quintus and tonight Quintus is getting extra homework for not behaving in school.  I figure if he isn’t concentrating in class, then he is missing out on schoolwork and he just has to catch it up at home.

I cannot WAIT for his teacher to come back.  School closes for the the winter holiday next Friday.  I think I should make a countdown calender just for that.

  1. We had so many problems at the end of the year for Noah. He has been an angel for two weeks since school got out. I think he was getting way too stressed out and that was how he was dealing with it. I am very worried about first grade because the teacher already has pre-conceived notions about how he will be. the countdown calendar is a great idea.

  3. I’ve totally been through this before plenty of times.

That means his other teacher must be extra special. There are just some teachers who do not work well with children. Also, a child is sensitive to the fact of whether or not their teacher likes them. When teachers are like that, kids tend to react negatively.

You have a winter break instead of a summer one? Or both? We have one long summer break over Christmas.

  5. It amazes me how friend can influence our kids and vice versa. I try and teach my older one to pick his friends wisely. The teacher should know enough to seperate them but you should definitely say something if she doesn’t. It is Quintas that will pay the price. Good luck with the teacher returning soon.

  6. Yes, you do need a countdown and so does Quintus. My kids had plenty of teachers they didn’t mesh with and I had no problem fighting to get them switched. It just isn’t worth seeing them get behind.

  7. Separating them is the right thing to do. She is probably so inattentive that she hasn’t noticed what’s going on (well she has a class and a half on her hands) she is probably treating ALL the kids that aren’t her ‘regulars’ a bit differently. I *do* think that if his behaviour is so very different to before then it MUST be the influence of this other kid. I remember vividly being so distracted by some little twit when I was in standard two and as soon as we were moved apart, I could finally concentrate again, and my marks improved dramatically.

  8. A countdown calendar will be a great idea and something special for Q to look forward to. I must add that I can hardly wait for next week Friday – then I get a break from school too 🙂

Good luck for the next week – at least its a short one!

  9. We all had that one teacher that we just couldn’t get along with. Whose teaching just didn’t inspire us to do any work, right? She sounds like a bit of a cow.
With any luck, Q’s regular teacher will be back when the new term starts and everything will be back to normal.
And I totally agree. In my day, if you chatted too much in class, you got split up from your friends/ fellow troublemakers :-). How hard can it be?

  11. Tristan is also acting completely out of character at the moment. I am going to see his teacher on 18 June. He is driving me insane.

    See you on Monday!!!!!!!! 🙂

  12. It is so strange read “School closes for the winter holiday…” as we are just getting into summer here.
I was discussing with my massage therapist yesterday blogs and how people from all over the world read each others blog and I told her about you and Wenchy.
It seems like you are close because we comment back and forth, yet when I read things like this it makes you seem worlds away.
I know all about schools, and teachers, and behavior/academic issues with boys. It’s so stressful when it’s happening to you, you want the best for your child, you want them to excel….and it seems easy enough, go to school – learn – do homework, etc… I never knew how complicated grade school is, especially nowadays.
The call I got from the principal the other day was because my son “touched” a female student and she complained that it made her feel uncomfortable. Apparently this was not a first offense for him (and of course they never told me about the first one). I questioned him and he said that the girl FELL on him in gym so “Technically mom, she touched me, and made ME uncomfortable!” I know he didn’t mean anything, my son is a physical kid, we wrestle around, etc. I just had to teach him what is appropriate and what is not. Bah. I feel like the school blew it way out of proportion, but all it takes is a complaint from a girl and he’s hauled down to the office, and since he’s had difficulty on and off with school, they always take the word of the other kid. One day he’ll get a fair shot at school. One day.

    Sorry for the novel!

    Hugs, Bekah
