Super Mom

Children and cell phones

Our school has a strict policy of no phones at school.  None.  However as with most things at the end of the year, children seem to ignore school rules.

Yesterday, I was chatting with Quintus and he told me about this boy in his Grade, who takes his cell phone to school.  Apparently he goes on the internet at school.  He downloaded a really explicit photo of a woman’s genitals.  Very porn like.  Quintus said that he and his friend didn’t know what he was going to show them but when they saw that, they turned around and walked away.

Grade four.

I’m so very glad that I’ve had the whole sex and body talk with Quintus.  He knew what to do in the situation.  He respects a woman’s body and was disgusted with the photo.  So was his friend.  I’m so thankful they are friends!

Grade four.

I saw this in Quintus’ English book.  I’m so glad that he is still a good child.   A kind child.  I hope that he will be like that always.

Its really disturbing that children that young are participating in things that they dont even understand. I was reading a debate on children and cell phones this weekend and this just adds another angle to the argument. http://www.risingchild.com/group/viewdiscussion/184-Cellphones+and+age+appropriateness?groupid=25
Children are growing up far to quickly and are missing out on thier childhood. We need to make sure as parents that children stay chlidren for as long as possible.
You really are lucky that your son has a friend like that – other parents arent as lucky!

  9. That is disturbing. Our kids have cell phones but they aren’t allowed to go on the internet with them. I’d never really thought about it, but this makes perfect sense. If parents are not checking their kids phones who knows what they’ve been up to. It’s just too much access.
The fact that your son talked to you about this shows what an awesome relationship you have with him. You’re a great mom

Amy, I had a look at that link and I think there are some good things and bad things that can be done. I agree why people think that you should have it but at the same time I can understand a parents worry.

I agree with the link that Amy posted! It really is important that people give children cell phones for the right reason.

  14. I blame the parents for their children abusing their cellphopne priviledges. If you are going to give your child a cellphone, you need to lay down the rules and guidelines and take appropriate steps to control the use and abuse of said phones.

And I see the people from “Rising Child” are using your blog to punt their website too!
I’m getting very annoyed with those people. Spamming people’s blog comment spaces is not how you go about promoting a website. I’ve had them “comment” on my blog several times calling themselves Amy, Tracy and Helen- amongst other names.
